Scarabee Stacking Vessel

Designed and prototyped in 2017

H. 90cm dia. 40cm
Dimensions are approximate, due to the handmade nature of the materials

Materials : handblown glass (Czech Republic), handspun metal (England), handturned wood (Finland)
The materials then come to our warehouse in Germany where they are fitted and assembled.

Challenge : scale of course! The glass requires our largest two-part wooden mould, weighing in excess of 100kg. To blow this piece, we need a team of four to five experienced glass blowers, a large gas torch to heat the glass and a cooling lehr with the capacity to hold the glass for the cooling period of 48 hours.
When we first showed the technical drawings to our glassblower team, they looked at us with a smile and said “no”… before accepting the challenge too, and helping us creating this astonishing piece!
