Ilona
handblown glass, UK / hand turned wood, FINLAND
Ilona is a fluid, sculptural Stacking Vessel that captures the essence of movement in solid form. With its almost liquid appearance, each piece is individually freehand blown and shaped on the iron by skilled artisans, making every vessel completely one of a kind.
True to Utopia & Utility’s philosophy of combining form and function, Ilona is designed to be both a decorative object and a practical piece. The vessel can be disassembled into two distinct components: a delicate hand-blown glass vase and a beautifully turned wooden bowl. Whether stacked together as a statement piece or used separately, Ilona brings artful elegance and purposeful design to any space.
Crafted with care in collaboration with traditional makers across Europe, Ilona celebrates the beauty of natural materials, the integrity of craftsmanship, and the poetry of functional design.
Designed and prototyped in 2021.

shaped by hand
IIlona is entirely shaped by hand.
Each piece is touched by heat, fire and the human hand, resulting in a fluid and unique shape from heavy glass.
density
Characteristic for this piece is a heavy layer of clear glass on the base, while the colour is trapped on the inside.
This creates beautiful optical effects.
Annealing
Due to the weight on the glass, the pieces need to be cooled down for a long time in an annealing oven, ensuring there is no stress in the glass.
